Privacy Policy

Side Swing ("the App") is developed as a hackathon project. We take your privacy seriously and are transparent about what data we collect and how we use it.

What We Collect

Location Data (Optional)

Used only during active gameplay to place your avatar on the map and detect when you reach your ball
Never stored on our servers
Never shared with third parties
You can play in Couch Mode without granting location access

Motion Data (Optional)

Accelerometer and gyroscope data from CoreMotion is used to detect your physical swing
Processed entirely on-device in real-time
Never transmitted off your device
You can use tap-and-hold input instead

Camera Access (Optional)

Used solely to check availability for Apple Look Around street view integration
The app does not capture, store, or transmit any camera images
Full gameplay is available without camera access

Player Name & Emoji

Your chosen display name and emoji avatar are stored locally on your device
Submitted to our leaderboard server only when you complete a round
Visible to other players on the course leaderboard

Game Scores

Your scores are submitted to our global leaderboard when you complete a round
Stored on Cloudflare's infrastructure
Associated only with your chosen display name (no personal identifiers)

What We Don't Collect

No email addresses, phone numbers, or real names
No device identifiers or advertising IDs
No analytics or tracking SDKs
No cookies or browser fingerprinting
No location history or movement patterns
No photos or camera recordings

Multiplayer

When playing multiplayer, your display name, emoji, ball position, and game state are shared with other players in your room via WebSocket. This data is not persisted after the game session ends. Room state exists only in memory during active gameplay.

Third-Party Services

Apple MapKit — Map tiles, walking directions, and Look Around imagery are fetched from Apple's servers subject to Apple's Privacy Policy
Cloudflare Workers — Our multiplayer server and leaderboard run on Cloudflare's edge network. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy

Data Retention

Leaderboard scores are retained indefinitely. Multiplayer game state is deleted when all players disconnect. No other data is stored on our servers.

Children's Privacy

Side Swing does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The app requires no account creation and collects minimal data.

Changes

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
